Stakeholders will not get extra time to weigh in on proposed overtime rules, the U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday. The comment period will close early next month as planned.
The proposal would expand overtime eligibility to those paid about $55,068 per year; today, the salary threshold sits at $35,568 per year. It also would enable automatic updates to the figure.
DOL said it received requests for an extension to the comment period, but said the original, 60-day time frame was reasonable. The Fair Labor Standards Act rules in question have been updated several times in recent years and the agency held numerous listening sessions during the past year, it said; “As a result, stakeholders are generally familiar with the issues addressed in the NPRM.”
The agency also pointed out that it posted the proposal to its website nine days before the comment period opened, giving stakeholders a head start on the comment period.
As of Thursday, the department had received more than 1,800 online comments.
Interested parties can submit comments electronically on www.regulations.gov (RIN 1235-AA39) through Nov. 7.
