- Providing employees with the latest technology can ultimately reflect success or failure. Unfortunately, findings from a new survey commissioned by Oracle indicate employees are underwhelmed when it comes to employers capitalizing on this opportunity. Just 44% of 5,000 full-time employees polled say that their employer uses the latest technology to enable them to effectively perform in their roles.
- Apart from the less than enthusiastic feelings about having the right technology tools, Oracle's Global Engagement Study (done by market research company Kantar TNS) also found employees are unsatisfied with the onboarding process, as only 41% believe that company onboarding practices set them up for growth and success.
- In a related finding, just 47% of those polled viewed their leaders as visible and approachable, and only 44% expressed confidence in their leadership, possibly meaning there is a lack of partnership between management and employees.

The Oracle survey results appear to fortify the idea that today's workers are very savvy regarding technology, as they regularly use multiple devices (i.e. mobile, tablet, desktop) when not at work. When an employer can't match that technology-driven experience in the workplace, it can present problems on many levels.
As for the negativity expressed about onboarding and manager-employee connectivity, employees today, especially younger ones, will decide quickly whether or not they are interested in a long-term stay with their new employer. The right technology tools will play a critical role in that decision, but so will the connection they make with their managers. The Oracle survey drives home the message that both criteria must be met to launch a successful engagement experience and, as a result, employee retention.
