Dive Brief:
- Better hiring strategies and increased employee retention are what tops the wish list for many small businesses in 2017, says John Rossheim who writes for Monster. Several items are pressing.
- Affordable Care Act updates need to be resolved, but right now with the new administration things are uncertain. Other wishes include better candidate quality and recruitment systems that streamline the process of hiring and onboarding talent.
- Small businesses are also hoping for continued legal immigrant status workers, a challenge that has plagued many companies. Rossheim advises that as recruitment technology improves, the need for systems that can manage people strategy and HR policy is still ever present. In 2017, small companies are also wishing for more candidates who have a mindset for leadership and development, but that have realistic compensation requirements.
Dive Insight:
The wishes that various human resource and recruitment professionals have are realistic and doable. But question is whether technology will be the key to accomplishing all of these things or if more leaders need to emerge from within HR ranks to get the job done.
It takes careful strategy and monitoring to accomplish many of these areas, except for regulatory changes that are basically out of everyone's hands for the time being. The future is uncertain with a new president-elect and candidate shortages continue to press certain industries regardless.
