Dive Brief:
- DZone, a popular community for software professionals, has launched a new job board with the hopes that it will help quality developers seeking career opportunities get matched up with employers seeking talent. Called DZone Jobs, the site is free for technology pros to post their resumes and credentials, and employers can purchase job packs to post new jobs that need to be filled.
- Matt Schmidt, president and CTO of DZone, told ERE Media that the new job portal is designed to help hiring companies set themselves apart from competing firms and connect with the best talent in the developer market.
- Stack Overflow’s 2016 Developer Landscape Report indicates that while unemployment rates for developers are at a low of 2.12%, nearly 15% of all developers are actively seeking new jobs and more than two-thirds are open to talking with employers about new career opportunities. DZone Jobs offers a valuable space in which to do so discretely.
Dive Insight:
The US Department of Labor estimates that software development jobs will continue to grow at an above-average rate of 17% in the next 10 years, and by 2022 will add around 280,000 new jobs. DZone is wise to include a job board and career resources for it's base of subscribers and readers because it already attracts this sector of the market. Employers can take advantage of posting job leads in a niche community, and talent can show off their skills to leading employers by creating online profiles and sharing their resumes.
The use of niche job boards is nothing new, but it has become another avenue for attracting talent in high demand industries. There are other methods in use to hire hard to find tech talent, including the use of training platforms like what Google and Microsoft offer, and referral systems for introducing talent to new opportunities. Companies are also turning to more internships and even apprentice programs to generate more interest in technology and develop the next generation of developers.
