Dive Brief:
- LinkedIn released its new list of the Top 10 Most Overused Buzzwords on Recruiters’ LinkedIn Profiles, reports Maria Ignatova. These were found across the entire network, which includes millions of recruiters spanning every industry and country, by a team of data analysts.
- The ten keywords include (in order): Specialized, Leadership, Experienced, Focused, Strategic, Passionate, Excellent, Generalist, Expert, Successful.
- 65% of candidates tell LinkedIn that they will not consider working for a company whose values they don't resonate with. Therefore, it's important to clearly communicate the company culture, mission and values in an authentic way.
Dive Insight:
Normally, these buzzword surveys are geared towards job seekers, but this switch in perspective is quite helpful for recruiters who may be trying to stand out on platforms like LinkedIn.
Buzzwords certainly have their place at times, but even recruiters can get into a rut at times and overuse them. It's more important to write job descriptions and company career content that speaks to the needs of candidates, and creates transparency about the company culture. Job ads have been under scrutiny as of late, as a poorly worded ad or profile can push away certain applicants.
One interesting note: The recruitment buzzwords are very similar to those that recruiters advise job seekers to leave off their resumes too.
