Dive Brief:
- Many recruiters create textual job leads on Twitter that are far too simple to get noticed, says Ryan McCready at Venngage, an infographic software company. Doing the minimum takes very little effort and it does not effectively attract candidates well.
- McCready gives tips on how to boost the visual appeal of job advertisements on Twitter in just 20 minutes, by creating effective job summaries, using words and images, making the job post shareable, and elevating the job posting in the market.
- The evidence for using imagery and other visuals in advertisements, including job listings, is powerful. According to Xerox researchers, "full-color visuals increase people's willingness to read a piece of content by as much as 80%." However, McCready warns that the visual content must be relevant to the text.
Dive Insight:
One must be warned that the use of infographics is only one possible way to add images to job adverts.
There are other visually stimulating content that can add another dimension of interest, such as short videos and downloadable documents. Recruiters should also be mindful of certain candidate disabilities and even cultural differences, as some visuals could create additional barriers.
Finally, when adding any visual components to job advertisements, they must be adaptable to all mobile devices so that candidates can view them, since many are using only mobile phones and tablets to conduct job searches.
