Dive Brief:
- With today's cloud-based options, employers changing HR systems is becoming relatively common.
- In the past, it might be every five to seven years for new software, but recently it's been cut to as little as three years, according the the Wichita Business Journal.
- With that in mind, the Business Journal offers five HR technologies that mid-markets might consider heading into 2016, if they are due for an update, including electronic onboarding, online benefits enrollment, performance management, learning management, and time and attendance.
Dive Insight:
These ideas aren't especially new for larger employers. What is new is the abundance of cloud-based vendors offering low-cost options to get any of these five processes done more effectively and efficiently for small and mid-sized companies.
Along the way, the article reminds HR leaders that by going this route, you can lower the total cost of ownership or turn to mobile or portal technology with the younger workforce in mind, among other upsides.
The Business Journal article warns, however, that with "new HR technologies and applications that are rolled out almost as frequently as new mobile phones," it might be a good idea to use a third-party HR service partner/consultant to figure out exactly which technology solutions match up with the employer's business process and workforce makeup.
